HJi hearts . . . Redheads

Thumbnail image for hji-loves.png redflorencesq.jpgRedheads have taken some stick over the years but this season, they are getting their own back by sporting the hot colour to flaunt.

Past ginger queens include supermodel Karen Elson, who's busy bringing up babies with musician Jack White, and Lily Cole who took a break from her Cambridge studies redlily.jpgrecently to grace the catwalks for Quasimi at London Fashion Week.

Hot new ginger princess and Critics' Choice Brit award winner Florence Welch  is flying the flag for new red cred with her beautiful mane of deep fox-red, tousled lengths, worn with a soft fringe.
 
Photographer Jenny Wicks's 'Root Ginger' exhibition celebrated all that is ginger throughout February, featuring beautiful shots of natural redheads. She also researched social and biological effects of the ginger gene. The exhibition has just finished but you can catch the beautiful shots on her website.

Recent stars to dabble with fierey tones include A-lister Scarlett Johansson and up-and-coming actress Evan Rachel Wood. With top TV redhead Patsy Palmer back in Eastenders and even Nicole Roberts from Girls Aloud hitting the top spot on the HJ Celebrity Hair-o-meter this week, it's cleary the colour of the moment. 

redbiancasq.jpgChris Williams, International Colour Director at Rush London gives his views on the rise of the red trend. "Lots of my clients are asking for auburn and mahogany reds at the moment.

"Go for a full head look and work a diffusion technique, blending from a deeper shade on the root to a softer hue through the ends to give movement and texture," he says.
