There's a real 80s feel to fashion this spring - from the power dressing with shoulder pads to the baggy pants and, of course the big hair.
Southern Hairdresser of the Year Rae Palmer's award winning collection highlights the key hairstyle trends for 2009.
These are her reflections on the key looks and advice on which clients are best suited to the trends.
The Purdey
This modern purdey cut is a key haircut for spring/summer 2009 as it features a more block/heavy graduation. The graduation has been elevated slightly throughout the cut to achieve lift and volume in the shape. Heavier shapes like are great for the 'block looks' designers created on the catwalk this season.
Best for... Clients who like a classic shape but with a twist or modern edge.
Celebrity style icons...Laura Marling; Joanna Lumley
Big Hair
Best for... All clients as it is a versatile length being able to create great volume and texture allowing you to use various dressing techniques as well as on trend updos seen on the catwalks this season.
Celebrity style icons... Cheryl Cole; Joan Collins
The Bob
Best for... All clients depending on the shape and length of the cut. This is a flattering length wearable by all.
Celebrity style icons... Nicola Roberts; Emma Bunton
The Crop
Best for...Clients who wish for a stylish and edgy haircut yet still want a feminine edge.
Celebrity style icons... Pixie Geldof; Joan Baez
The Sweeping Fringe
This has an 80s Madonna feel to it, which is a key iconic influence on the catwalk this season. The triangular layers were slightly shattered on the ends with thinning scissors to create a real natural movement and voluminous texture. The fringe is very feminine and it has been cut with a disconnection so as not to be too heavy over the eye, and is cut asymmetrically to give a real sexy glamorous feel.
Best for...Clients who want a fringe but don't have the face shape to wear something shorter or less forgiving.
Celebrity style icons...Taylor Momsen; Kate Moss

I think your definitely right about the new upcoming looks for Spring. There are so many cute celebrity inspired looks out right now. I think that if people are scared to take the plunge into a new bob cut or the stylish platinum blonde look that they should try a couple quick and easy hairstyles such as: natural curls, braids or side buns. Either of the options are sure to catch attention. Here is a link to a couple more of my favorite new looks for Spring!
