Tim Hartley wows Salon Live audience

Tim-Hartley-Salon-Live.jpgSimplistic elegance was the buzz phrase of Tim Hartley's stunning show for Salon Live. There was, he said, a return to classic techniques with a twist - something reflected beautifully in the looks he presented to the capacity crowd.

Tim began by sharing some of the major references for his work, and as always with this master of cutting, they were diverse and inspirational, including Italian furniture designers, cutting edge photographers and modern art.

Cuts were, as promised, classic with modern edge - a nod to the sixties and a wink towards the 80s. But in all cases it was about technique and precision cutting, with Tim making it look effortless.

Colour was bold, but, on the surface at least, simple. Colourist Tracy Hayes joined Tim on stage to describe how she created the lush shades, which covered the blonde, red, brunette spectrum. What appeared like global colour was in fact subtly spliced with colour, often only revealed when the top hair was lifted. Blues peeped through black and iridescent pink through blonde.

Facial hair was also in evidence - only amongst the male models, of course. Long false beards were sported by youthful men, with the hair on their heads inspired by the 60s and 80s. Styles, created by Tim and Kiyoshi Inoue, of Environment, London, played with juxtaposition of textures and internal geometry, with a mix of loose external layers and heavy outlines

Like the looks he created, Tim's presentation style was simple and elegant, offering an intimate audience with one of the world's greatest hairdressers.
