TIGI Inspirationl Youth shine at Salon Live

Tigi-main-pic.jpgWith so many huge names appearing at Salon International it's always good to see some of the new talent coming through - possibly the big names of the future.

And judging by the standard of work on display during the TIGI Inspirational Youth show, there is no shortage of new talent.

Before the 12 members of the Inspiration Youth programme took to the stage, TIGI international creative director, Anthony Mascolo explained to the capacity crowd the reason for launching the scheme.

"For TIGI it's all about the youth. When I was growing up my older brothers pushed me and this kind of encouragement is something we pride ourselves on at TIGI. The youth are the future of the industry, it's all about getting them excited about what they are doing."

Next, Akosh Bodi, European educational director and Nick Irwin, European creative director bounded onstage to compere the event and their energy was matched only by the enthusiasm of the inspirational youths themselves.

First it was the turn of the girls with six young stylists from salons across the UK presenting their take on the TIGI Urban Classics collection.

The girls had also pre-prepared six presentation models, who stunned the crowd with a hair show, that clearly demonstrated the skills and creative flair the girls had acquired during the Inspirational Youth programme.

The main theme for the presentation models was gothic, with flashes of punk, and even a 1920s influence thrown in.

Nick Irwin summed up what most of the crowd must have been thinking - "Six months ago none of these girls had ever been on a stage - they are all doing such a brilliant job. To have achieved this level in six months is phenomenal."

The boys were equally impressive demonstrating their skills with the confidence of experienced art team members. Their presentation models were also stunning, with inspiration taken from Manga and Kill Bill, with smooth fringes combined with highly textured big hair.

Anthony Mascolo closed the show with high praise for the 12 inspiring young stylists.

"The work here is fabulous," he said. "This is a great example of what the youth can do. If you didn't know differently, you'd think this was a professional art team up here."

The culmination of the show was the presentation to Inspirational Youth member Rachelle Summerson-Wright of a special prize for her outstanding performance during the programme.

In recognition of her efforts Rachelle, of Janet Maitland Hair Excellence in Durham will assist Nick Irwin and the TIGI art team at a major event next year.

Judging by the standard of work displayed by all 12 of the Inspirational Youths of 2008, the future of hairdressing is in safe hands.
