The Clothes Show Live Young Hairdresser of the Year competition will recognise the newest creative talents the industry has at the Clothes Show Live, on December 9.
If you are under 30, educated to NVQ level 2 standard and have between three and five years experience as a stylist, this could be your change to make a mark on the industry.
But you have to be quick because all entries must be received by midday on Friday, October 26.
Past and present Hairdressers of the Year agree that competitions are a great way for you to learn a new set of skills.
Lisa Shepherd is a judge for the awards and has plenty of experience in the field – she has won various top awards – including the ultimate accolade, British Hairdresser of the Year in 2005.
"I believe in entering industry competitions as they are so beneficial. As a way of encouraging and motivating team members they can’t be beaten.
"You learn a different set of skills – creating perfect hair for a photo is a detailed and complicated process. Becoming a finalist – and winning if you are lucky – creates a fantastic buzz in the salon and gives you opportunities for local and national press."
Current British Hairdresser of the Year Andrew Barton is also a fan. "Competitions increase skills, knowledge, turnover, encourage staff retention and keep team spirits high.
"If you don’t win, despite the initial disappointment, there’s still no downside because you’ve had a successful year and your team will be even more set on doing better the following year.
"If you build your business around competition, there’s no doubt it gives you focus. It’s a culture that should be encouraged within the industry.”
Find out more about the competition here or download your entry form - but remember all entries must be received by October 26.
