The winner of the Habia Young Apprentice of the Year 2007 was announced by Andrew Barton at a lavish awards ceremony at the Warwickshire Golf and Country Club.

The British Hairdresser of the Year 2006 kicked off his presentation to the students from the Young Apprenticeship for Hairdressing programme with an inspirational talk about his illustrious career and how he began as an apprentice.

He then presented trophies and prizes to the winner Pamela Barrett of Above Bar College, Southampton, and the two runners up, Shauna Saxon of Keith Graham Academy Folkestone and Rosie Ellis, ITS – Farnham and Ash Partnership.

The winner, Pamela Barrett said; ‘I feel so excited and happy about winning and following a career in hairdressing.

"I was shocked but feel very proud to have won this fantastic competition. I really enjoyed completing the mood boards, practicing the style and learning new techniques."

The competition, supported by L ’Oréal Professionel and Wahl, allowed Young Apprentices to demonstrate their new hairdressing skills by submitting images of their finished look on a head block, along with a mood board and statement describing the look they have created and their inspiration.

Two finalists were chosen from each of the six training providers delivering Young Apprenticeships before having their entries judged by Patrick Cameron, Fran Cox of L ’Oreal Professionel, Erik Lander, Habia Skills Team Artistic Director and Jane Goldsbro, Habia Director of Standards and Qualifications.

Patrick Cameron said, "I was really impressed with some of the talent I saw on display, especially when you consider the entrants are only 14 to 15 years old.

"Some of the mood boards and images were incredibly creative, which gives me great optimism for the future ."
