Hj launches two styling competitions for salon international 2013 CompetitonHeader HJ is launching two new photographic competitions that will culminate in a live final at Salon International 2013, held at ExCel London. Sunday 13 October will see the HJ Stage play host to HJ's Barber of the Year competition, supported by the British Barbers' Association, which is open to all qualified barbers or those with a minimum of five years experience. On Monday 14 October, HJ's Student Creative Team of the Year competition will take place - this is open to all hair and beauty students in the UK. Entries will be judged by a panel of relevant and credible experts and the finalists in both categories will then be invited to recreate their looks, live in a special competition area at Salon International - with the winners announced on the HJ Stage. To enter the competition, you simply need to email us an image of a fashionable men's style for the Barbering category or a celebrity-inspired look for the Creative Team category. The deadline for both categories is 5pm on 13 September. To enter Send one fashionable men's hairdressing image to the email provided, along with your name, salon name and address and mobile number. The image can be in colour or black and white and does not have to be shot professionally but the hair needs to be in focus. The image must be between 2MB and 5MB in size. Make sure you can recreate the look in a 45-minute live competition at Salon International on Sunday 13 October at ExCeL London. Deadline is 5pm on 13 September 2013. Competitors will be required to register at the competition area, time to be agreed, on the morning of the 13 October. Finalists in the live final will not have access to wet prep. They will be able to prep at their competition table prior to the start of the competition where make-up can be applied and hair can be wet sprayed or dampened down. Only the model, hairdresser, make-up artist and stylist are allowed in the preparation area. All models must have their clothes styled and make-up applied prior to the start of the competition. If the hair needs to be wet prior to the competition starting, water sprays can be used before and during the competition itself. Hair cannot be washed in the toilets. Competitors need to bring all products, water sprays, equipment, gowns and towels with them as nothing is available or supplied. One single socket power supply will be available for each contestant at their work station. Judges will walk around the competition area during the competition itself and will be allowed to ask competitors questions about cut, colour and styling. The winners will be announced at 2pm on Sunday 13 October on the HJ stage. Photographs will be taken throughout the day for use in Hairdressers Journal International and on HJi and will be issued with a comprehensive press release to both UK and international press The organisers reserve the right to refuse or cancel an entry, or cancel a category without disclosure of the reason. HJ’s Student Creative Team of the Year Open to students who are unqualified, studying NVQ Level 2 or equivalent. Entrants can be salon or college-based. The team should consist of one hairdresser and one make-up artist.
