The parlour philadelphia: interiors inspiration the parlour philadelphia Jessica Jane and Kelley Hughes opened The Parlour Philadelphia with the hopes of creating a welcoming, comfortable space that encouraged creativity and inspired the staff as well as their clients. Within their Fishtown salon, Jessica and Kelley have created a strong identity, mixing hard edges with soft touches. "We did not follow any rules or specific design styles," they say. "We just did what felt right to us; what came natural and was easy." Family was such a big inspiration, with Jessica's grandmother and Kelley's mother making much of The Parlour possible. They helped begin an incredible journey for these two entrepreneurs and are touchingly honoured in little places throughout the salon. "They played huge roles in our lives, in every way. Our families' influence, specifically from these amazing women, is obvious within our space." Jessica and Kelley's keen eye for unique design lead them to acquire eclectic art and design pieces for their space, including an amazing 1920's chandelier fitted in the centre of the shop. They also pulled pieces from their own homes, friends and local thrift and vintage shops within Philadelphia, repurposing found objects and seeing the beauty in things that once were. "Our style is classic but definitely has an edge," they comment. "We mixed styles and textures from influences ranging from the 19th century to the industrial. We kept the grit of our raw warehouse space in the exposed brick walls and our custom built metal style stations and softened it with old velvet sofas and rustic wood accents." "We tried to steer clear of any typical salon style," they conclude. "It's been done and seems boring at times. Just because it's 'supposed; to be a certain way, it doesn't mean it should be. It's easy enough to make a space work and have fun with it."
