Pretty up your ponytail with celebrity style inspiration

The ponytail is a summer staple, but that doesn't mean it has to be boring - just take Kate Hudson's wavy, half-braided style. Kate rocked this look at the AmFar Gala in Los Angeles, bringing a bit of beachy glamour to the red carpet. We asked HJ’s 2012 Eastern Hairdresser of the Year, Shaun Hall of Mark Leeson Hair, Body & Mind in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, for his verdict on this perfect summer style... “Kate’s opted for a sexy, relaxed ponytail on this occasion," says Shaun. "In keeping with her trademark bohemian beauty, the look gives the impression of being effortless and carefree and it works beautifully with the gently curled waves. “If I was to change anything about this look, I would consider the addition of a few hair wefts to add bulk to the ponytail – and a little backcombing to give slightly more depth to the rest of the hair would work well too.
