Male grooming - how to get eyebrow shaping right

alex-apprentice-eyebrows.jpgThe Apprentice is back, and as well as outlandish statements and questionable sales tactics, also capturing the limelight this year are contestant Alex Hall's unusual eyebrows.

Alex, a Welsh businessmen who thinks he looks like Freddie Mercury, was kindly informed in the first episode that his appearance was actually closer to that of Dracula. We blame the eyebrows, which seem to have been plucked into oblivion at the halfway point - never a good look.

This is not to say that men shouldn't be tackling a bushy or badly-shaped brow - in fact, beauty therapist Alison Wade of The Stress Exchange in London Bridge says "Our most popular male grooming treatment is eyebrow shaping. Typically, a nice, tidy, natural look is preferred" (Alex take note).

When choosing the correct eyebrow shape for a man, Alison takes into account "bone structure, skin tone, eye colour and of course the clients' profession", before waxing brows into the perfect shape for which she charges £14.40. "We find it perfectly normal for our male clients to want to look their best," adds Alison.

When it comes to advising your male clients on grooming their own brows, always plucking from below, sticking to the natural shape and taking it very slowly are the top tips - although for a first attempt at taming the tufts, visiting a professional is always best.
