The Michael Van Clarke Salon in Marylebone, London is launching its new-look Academy this month, complete with government-accredited qualifications.

Successful students completing the 15-month training programme will now receive official NVQ qualifications for level 1 and 2 syllabuses.

The academy launched in 2007, but 2013 will be the first year that the qualifications offered will be nationally recognised with practical assessments and written exams required to achieve the grades.

New recruit, Elayna Murray-Fowler has taken on the role of academy manager and will now be responsible for educating and tutoring students. She is qualified to teach theory, invigilate exams and assess students' practical work.

Commenting on the accreditation, Michael Van Clarke says: "Since it first launched, The Academy has been a huge success and has seen many apprentices rise through the ranks to become some of London's best hairdressers. By incorporating NVQ accreditation, students will continue to benefit from the best possible training, which continues to be significantly above the standard NVQ criteria, but with the added bonus of a nationally recognised qualification at the end."
