From haute-grunge to tomboy chic, the Autumn/Winter 2012/13 catwalks offered a wealth of ways for stylish women to wear their hair.

No matter what the celebrity style tribe, there's a hair trend to match - here are our favourite looks of the last few weeks and the celebrities wearing them well.

Grunge girls
"Grunge is popular again and the reason it has made a comeback is because it's all about going out wearing your own mood and being glam or sexy without trying. It was the anti-fashion statement of the 1990s; it was seductive and rebellious and people felt they could express their individuality. The whole revival has returned but with a modern edge. Alexa Chung wears the modern grunge well with her dark roots and light ends with a sexy 'just got out of bed' feel, but still with that classy touch of the 1950s."

Sleek chic
"Although this look appears to be the easiest of all the trends to wear and perfect, it's actually quite  difficult. There needs to be a balance of both parting and products: the balance must be just right. This look is particularly androgynous and needs to be teamed with the correct clothing to work for the red carpet. There's been a massive female movement towards masculine styles for the past couple of seasons and these ladies have got this look perfected. There's no way that this sleek, parted style could be worn with a red-carpet gown - they know they need to team it up with a tuxedo with a feminine edge. I think they look fantastic - what a great move away from traditional red-carpet style."

On the up
"Ponytails are an effortless style that suit most people and can be easy to create, so it's no surprise they're a look that's been all over the catwalks for the last year. No matter what your clients' hair length, this style can work as you can just use a clip-in extension to achieve the finish you want. The pony is super-versatile; you can wear it high, low and with different textures to suit different occasions, so it's always a winner. For Autumn/Winter 2012, we've seen a messier look than the clean shapes of last season but it still remains a top trend."

Retro romance
"Retro glamour is huge at the moment and with current fashion tribes being so massively different from one another, the red carpet is a place where celebrities can bring back the class of their choice from a previous era - with firm favourites being the 1940s and 1950s. Eva Herzigova's look works well; with her statuesque body and strong defined features, she makes this retro look her own and complements it with the sophistication of her dress and accessories. Marion Cotillard's look doesn't make quite a big enough statement in my opinion. The 1940s is a great era to seek inspiration from but I feel stronger make-up would have accentuated the look - proving that the finishing touches are vital to a vintage-inspired finish."
