British fashion awards 2012: best tressed The British Fashion Awards took place at the Savoy Hotel in London last night, with the great and the good of the fashion industry - and the celebrities that wear their looks - honoured for their achievements.

Alexa Chung

Voted Fashion Icon of the Year for a third year in a row, Alexa Chung didn't disappoint with her red carpet look.

The model turned presenter opted for a black lace Simone Rocha dress, which she paired with two different hair looks on the evening.

Walking on the red carpet, Alexa chose her usual tousled waves and centre-parted fringe for a typically understated look.

Posing with her award in the press room after the event, Alexa switched things up with a side ponytail worn slung over one shoulder.

It's always good to see Alexa experiment with her hair - much as we love those dishevelled bed head waves, it's nice to see her try something different with a typically laidback updo.

Cara Delevingne

Girl of the moment, Cara Delevingne, was unsurprisingly awarded with the gong for Model of the Year - hardly surprising after she walked 31 shows last season and signed a host of high-profile advertising deals.

Cara opted for dishevelled texture with her long blonde locks, with hair worn in a centre parting to add to the nonchalent, slightly grungy feel.

A metallic green leather Burberry dress made for serious sparkle on the red carpet, so keeping the hair simple and understated was a wise move on the behalf of Cara and her stylist.

Dita von Teese

She may not have been up for any awards at this Brit-centric event, but Dita von Teese still shone on the red carpet.

Unsurprisingly, Dita opted for classic old-school Hollywood glamour with her velvety black tresses styled in pristine curls.

The traditionally set look has volume around the face to add a flattering finish, while the slightly shorter length - presumably created by styling into a faux bob.

Trademark red lips and porcelain skin complete this classy Dita look.

Kelly Brook also opted for vintage-inspired styling, with classically polished smooth waves.

Worn in an asymmetric style with hair side parted and slung over one shoulder, this super-glossy look harks back to 1940s Hollywood glamour.

A subtle colour change through the lengths and ends of Kelly's hair enhances the shape of those waves and brings the look bang up to date at the same time.

Lily Allen

A heavily pregnant Lily Allen was also at the awards, presenting designer Kim Jones with the prize for Menswear Designer of the Year.

The stylish mum-to-be showed off a sleek new style, with a full fringe worn smoothed over to one side.

Contrasting against the straight fringe, the rest of Lily's locks were piled up in a loose, textured updo with a few loose pieces around the face.

A flattering, no-fuss look and a very welcome return to the red carpet for Lily!

Rita Ora

Rita Ora provided entertainment on the night, wowing the crowds with a storming set.

The blonde bombshell opted for large, loose waves with a textured, slightly fluffy feel through the lengths.

The fluffy texture and baby-blonde shade is a perfect complement to Rita'a strapless Vivienne Westwood powder blue gown.

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek was also on to present awards - a suitable role for the stylish actress who is also married to the CEO of PPR, Francois-Henri Pinault; the man in charge of Gucci, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent, to name a few.

On this occasion, Salma opted for a sleek knotted updo - a welcome change for Salma, who usually opts for big, bouncy blow-dries.

Knotted around into a loose top know and paired with a sweeping side fringe, this look feels fresh and young and is the perfect match to Salma's fringed dress and bright pink lips.

Victoria Pendleton

Cycling star Victoria Pendleton has obviously picked up some glamour tips during her time on Strictly as this red carpet look is one of her best styles to date.

Asymmetric styling seems to have been a theme for the evening, with Victoria also opting for side-slung lengths.

Styled poker straight with a slight kick through the lengths, this glossy look is also the perfect match for Victoria's rich brunette shade.

This dark hue looks super-luxe on Victoria - a perfect match for her complexion and makeup choice.
