Red carpet hairstyles: grammy awards 2012 The 54th annual Grammy Awards 2012 was a more subdued affair than in previous years but that didn't stop stars including Katy Perry, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj causing a stir on the red carpet. With styles ranging from the avant garde to the artistic, here we take a look at the hottest hair from the night with comments from Paola Pinto, session stylist and member of the award-winning RUSH Artistic Team.

Adele

PP: "This is a much softer look than we have seen on Adele in the past, although I do think wearing her hair down does make her look a little older. I'd like to see the colour broken up a bit more with some darker more caramel shades added for some depth and texture."

Lady Gaga

PP: "Oh dear what is going on here?  I think this look does nothing for Gaga! It's actually very ageing and I'm not keen on the contrast of the black bun."

Corinne Bailey Rae

PP: "Corinne's hair looks really pretty longer and as she has a great curl it's nice to her work with itl rather than go against it. I'm not keen on the way it's been styled and think she would have been better leaving it all down to show off the great texture and volume that she has naturally."

Kelly Rowland

PP: "I love the texture of Kelly's hair - it looks really pretty and doll like. The styling is also really nice and suits her face shape. The tightness of the curl is a lot softer on Kelly's strong features."

Fergie

PP: "I love power ponytails and Fergie looks great with her hair off her face. I think the colour lets her down here though as she has her natural colour growing through her roots. The colour is too dark on the mid band and then the whole ponytail is white blonde. There's just too much of a contrast, which makes the ponytail look like it's been added on."

Gwyneth Paltrow

PP: "Beautiful. A simple, clean ponytail in a gorgeous warm blonde colour. I also like the little bit of height added just around the front, which makes the whole look really elegant."

Julianne Hough

PP: "Julianne's colour is gorgeous and I love the different shades of blonde. I think the styling should have been a little looser and not so set. Maybe a few more layers for texture could work. The middle parting look is great for when the sides are also a little shorter, perhaps for a grown out fringe."

Carrie Underwood

PP: "I think this look is slightly ageing on Carrie as her hair is too fine to be pulled back into this style. Her colour needs some work as the darker roots just look like she hasn't had time to visit the salon. I would like to have seen a warmer colour with softer curls framing her face."

Kate Beckinsale

PP: "I'm not sure about the height on this style as Kate has quite a long face shape and the height is making it look even longer. Kate would benefit from a flatter look with more width on the bottom half to even out the shape."

Jessie J

PP: "Personally I didn't really think Jessie's bob suited her as she has quite a square-shaped face and it was making her look too hard. This look, on the other hand, is great on her. She still has her power fringe but with a girly twist in the ponytail. The dark black shade really brings out her eyes and gives a really dramatic look."

Katy Perry

PP: "What is Katy doing?! The colour is awful and doesn't look right with the style which is too square and solid. Katy normally looks so pretty -  I think she should stick to her black waves. Blues and greens are hot colours right now but it is so important to get the tone right and make sure it has been freshly applied, especially for such an important event as this - it looks like it is starting to fade."

Kelly Osbourne

PP: "This is a great colour for Kelly and is very fresh. The soft pastel is a beautiful tone on her skin and spot on for coming into the spring season. I love Kelly's hair longer as she has a heavy jaw and the length is a lot softer on her than short styles."

Rihanna

PP: "I love the texture of Rihanna's hair but I'm not keen on the colour as it's a little too yellow. I prefer her with her fiery red as it looks amazing against her skin tone. The length is good on her at the moment though and I like the relaxed curls which will be a hot look for the summer."

Nicki Minaj

PP: "I love Nicki's colour and the soft waves give her a really cute look. I do think she looks stronger and more edgy with the pink colour we often see her with, but this makes a nice change and is softer against the dramatic red outfit."

Taylor Swift

PP: "Taylor has gone for a chic ballerina bun, which is gorgeous for her style and the elegant dress she is wearing. This look is pretty and soft and is one that will be seeing a lot of over the summer as it is so easy to recreate. "

Alicia Keys

PP: "Alicia normally wears her hair down so this is a great change for her. As she has great cheekbones and a strong jaw line, she can really carry off this quite severe look. Her outfit is very structured and the hairstyle really sets this off."

Robyn

PP: " I love this edgy pageboy cut on Robyn and it's nice to see someone being a bit more daring on the red carpet. This is a great colour and the dark roots work really well with the clean blonde. This look is edgy but girly at the same time."

Amber Rose

PP: "Not many people can carry off a shaved head but Amber definitely can and she looks hot! The short cut is softened by the blonde colour and complements her skin tone beautifully."
