In the first of a new series, we ask people with interesting jobs within our industry about their typical days. This week, we speak to photographer Jack Eames.

"I get up around 6.30am when I'm on a shoot, and then I cook a bowl of porridge which fuels me for the day. I also take time out to meditate; this helps regulate my energy levels as I need to retain momentum throughout the shoot.

"I am a beauty photographer so my job is to bring a combination of beauty and fashion to my pictures, primarily focusing on hair. Depending on the story and the size of the shoot, we use various studios in London, mostly Hasselblad in Hoxton as the team there look after us so well.

"At 8am, my assistant loads the people carrier with equipment and we head off. Once in the studio, my assistant will get the basic framework set up, while I go through mood boards with the client, make-up artist, fashion stylist and artistic director. I spend time with the models to explain what will be expected of them and study their portfolios to see how best to capture their image.

"We often shoot up to eight models during the day, and it's important to keep energy levels up as budgets get broken if we go into overtime at the studio. I'm very picky about my music playlist as this adds the extra pace needed in the afternoon and I tend to control what's pumped from the sound system.

"Generally, we'll have wrapped everything up by 6.30pm, but I'm still working in the evening as I do all my own retouching. If I'm not retouching or prepping a background for a shoot, I go to the gym every other day, and, when the diary allows, I'll meet friends in town for a meal and catch-up.

"The one aspect I love most about working in the hair industry is delivering on the trust people put in me during a shoot. The hair industry hosts the most creative and talented people I've ever worked with."
