Gamine style is a top catwalk trend for Autumn/Winter 2011, seen at shows including Dolce & Gabbana, Chanel and Ralph Lauren. And what better accompaniment to trousers, tailoring and tweeds than tomboy tresses, with styling secrets borrowed from the boys?
From slightly more lengthy textured crops as seen on Evan Rachel Wood, Agyness Deyn and Vanessa Hudgens to the sweeping pixie cuts sported by Dakota Fanning, Ginnifer Goodwin and Frankie Sandford, short hair is fast becoming a celebrity staple.

These celebrities show off the shortest of the short styles with gamine looks, inspired by men's cutting and styling techniques.

"Emma has made her crop even more stylish here by wearing it sleek and sophisticated. The beauty of the cut is that it's so versatile it can be worn smooth or textured. This gamine style is best suited for those blessed with delicate feminine features, like Emma. However, if I had to pick one area that could be enhanced, it would be to add a hint of chestnut to her natural brunette honey tones."

Michelle Williams
"Michelle's new look is bang on-trend for the coming season and has a tailored feel. However, at 30 years old, I feel that this style ages her quite significantly, and does not complement her chic, contemporary image. I would love to cut her fringe shorter to give her style a bit more strength, as well as adding more texture to the top and sides creating the perfect silhouette."

"Tilda is a great example of how to master the masculine styling that is all over the catwalks for Autumn/Winter. The short crop and side-swept fringe look fantastic on her, particularly teamed with a golden blonde hue. Although the deep parting places her firmly at the top of the fashion stakes, to give her face more definition I'd recommend sweeping the fringe over her forehead even more, which would soften the cut and make it more feminine, leaving her rocking the gamine look perfectly."

Emily Browning
"Emily's new cut really suits her. Although her long locks were glamorous, she was almost lost behind them. This short style does wonders for her face shape and sex appeal - she certainly carries off the naughty but nice look. I've seen photos of her both as a brunette and as a dark blonde and I think the blonde suits her better. It also makes her look younger, so I think she should stay away from the darker tones, or perhaps introduce a few highlights through the front."
