While female stars have long been enamoured with the effortless look, men's trends have recently pointed towards the dapper super-groomed look as inspired by Mad Men and catwalk trends for slicked back styles.

However with summer on its way and thoughts of holidays on the horizon, the textured look offers a relaxed alternative to grooming for gents with a rough-and-ready, rockstar image.

Johnny Depp
"Everyone wonders what's happening behind those eyes of Johnny's, and this style is perfect for the mysterious-looking maverick! A long, layered cut like this is great for eliminating weight from thick hair and adding depth to the style. It makes a strong, individual statement - perfect for Johnny who has never been one to follow the crowd. Adding a rich colour will define this fashion-forward shape further. I would suggest a deep, dark brown; almost a raven black shade."

David Gandy
"David is wearing a textured look here. The tousled effect on top combined with tightly cropped sides and back provide a strong, sharp image. Products used to create this style are softer and leave the hair touchable with loose separation for both day and evening wear." Thomas McMillan, Cox McMillan, London and Scotland

"Nick's heavy, built-up texture is a popular look for men at the moment. The sharpness around the edges accentuates his jawline while width and volume on top give his look a dapper, slightly 1980's feel. The contrasting top length also makes for greater versatility; it can be worn with a natural curl and texture as Nick has done, or slicked back for a more groomed finish."

Orlando Bloom
"Orlando's style is great for longer face shapes and those with coarse hair. This look works with Orlando's natural curl, and creates a rugged, textured finish for an up-to-date, modern style. Today's fashionable men's hairstyles are about following the hair's natural texture, unlike those from the past which have fought to transform it."
