Twelve months ago John Frieda got together a group of hairdressers with the aim of raising £1m towards two new neuroscience operating theatres at Great Ormond Street Hospital - and in the first year more than £600,000 has been raised.

Now the appeal for 2011 has been launched, and the £1m target is within reach, but John and Great Ormond Street Hospital need you and your teams to get involved.

More than 1,750 salons across the country joined HAIRraising in 2010, raising money in a variety of ways, including cut-a-thons, fashion shows, bike rides and skydives.

Get involved in 2011 by registering on the HAIRraising website or call 020 7239 3067. If you're already registered and you'd like additional fundraising materials, please email [email protected].

HAIRraising in 2011

HAIRraising month is June and the £1m target is within reach. For 2011 it's even easier to support the appeal. Here are some ideas for your and your salon to get involved with this year.

Cut-a-thon
Get your whole salon behind HAIRraising and hold a cut-a-thon day in June, donating a percentage of a day's takings. You can combine raising money for an excellent cause with generating some excellent consumer PR - why not use the opportunity to introduce new customers to your salon, and maybe make the day special by doing it in fancy dress.

London to Cambridge bike ride
Why not take part in the HAIRraising bike ride? On Sunday 12 June join other HAIRraisers on a one-day sponsored cycle from Buckingham Palace to Cambridge. This moderate-grade, undulating route of just under 60 miles will take you through some of England's most picturesque rural landscapes. If you'd like to take part, register on the HAIRraising website.

HAIRraising raffle
If you're after something not quite so energetic, the HAIRraising raffle is perfect. Sell tickets in your salon and not only will you be helping to care for the poorly children in the hospital, but raffle ticket holders will also be in with a chance to win very big prizes.
