How to create an ornate top knot with stylers

The ghd Midnight Collection is twelve professional looks all inspired by the Autumn/Winter 2010 catwalk shows and created using the new ghd Gold Classic styler.

Here is how you can create an ornate top knot using your stylers.

Step One: Take a triangular section from crown to temples. From the crown take two diagonal partings down towards the ears. Clip away the front sections.	Step Two: Starting from the nape, take a 2cm-deep horizontal section, then take a 3cm-wide sub section. Place the styler at the roots with your thumb on top and rotate 180 degrees away from the head whilst elevating the hair at 90 degrees, slowly gliding the styler out from roots to ends. Wrap the curl back towards the head and secure with a clip. Continue to complete the first section.

Step Three: Repeat this process working upwards in horizontal sections to complete to the crown.	Step Four: Starting from the left-hand section, take a diagonal section 2cm deep above the ear, then take a 3cm wide sub section. Place the styler at the roots with your thumb on top and rotate 180 degrees away from the head whilst elevating the hair at 90 degrees, slowly gliding the styler out from roots to ends. Wrap the curl back towards the head and secure with a clip. Repeat to complete the first section.

Step Five: Continue the process to complete the front right-hand side section. Repeat step four on the front left-hand side.	Step Six: Starting from the crown, take a 2cm-deep horizontal section, then a 3cm-wide sub section. Place the styler at the root with your thumb on top, rotate 180 degrees and push forwards, over directing the hair slowly from the roots to the ends. Wrap the curl back towards the head and secure with a clip. Repeat to complete the first section and then continue this process to complete the preparation.

Step Seven: Section the hair vertically from ear to ear creating two panels, front and back. Take the front panel and brush forward into a tight forward ponytail. Secure the base of the ponytail with a covered elastic.	Step Eight: Take the back panel and brush up towards the front, connecting the front with the back leaving no gaps, into one large ponytail. Secure with a covered elastic.

Step Nine: Separate the ponytail into several pieces then back brush each piece at the roots for more lift. Twist and fold each piece back on itself, sculpting the shape as required and secure the ends to the base of the original ponytail with a pin.	Step Ten: Take a pre-prepared hair weft and pin at the base of the original ponytail. Brush and twist the weft back on itself, sculpting it into the shape required and secure at the ends with a pin.
