Celebrities embrace mid-length magic as the long bob makes a comeback HJI Hearts logo.bmpcelebrity-mid-length-hairstyles.jpgForget pixie crops and Barbie girl extensions; the hottest celebrity look of the moment is the mid-length.

Whether worn smooth and volumised, or shaggy and textured, this suits-all style feels fresh and young.

Carly Aplin of Cutting Room Creative, Leeds, says: "Deliberate mid-length cuts are really popular with celebrities lately, probably because they're really versatile, easy to maintain and suit virtually all face shapes."

It's no surprise that style queen Alexa Chung is one of the doyennes of this look, pairing her equally on-trend balayage colour with a shaggy bob and effortless styling.

Nicole Richie has also lopped off her lengths to follow the trend, rocking a loose, layered style which feels much fresher than her previous long locks.

When supermodels get on board with a trend, you know it's going places - so with both Milla Jovovich and Natalia Vodianova sporting shoulder-skimming styles, it's time to start sharpening those scissors.

The two models rock the look in very different ways; Milla keeping it straight and sleek with a sweeping fringe, and Natalia opting for a more boho finish, with curls and texture.

And Twilight actress Ashley Greene has reinvented herself this year, updating her long black gothic looks for a rich, brunette hue. Her latest makeover is a bouncy shoulder-length cut, with plenty of layers.

The mid-length look is ideal showing off curls and texture, as proven by Selena Gomez and Fearne Cotton.

Both stars rock bouncy, loose curls - and while these tumbling waves could look overplayed on long hair, on this midlength cut they look cool, fresh, and young.

Carly advises: "Whether you want to wear your hair straight or textured, a mid-length cut is the perfect style to emphasise the natural movement of your hair."

However she also warns: "The key to this cut is to keep hair looking healthy; make sure the ends are trimmed regularly, so your client doesn't end up looking like the've just let their hair grow out without thinking about a style!"
