Mahogany demonstrate their crowning glory
Graphic lines, disconnection and strong colour were the defining moods of Mahogany's Salon Seminars, which shared the secrets of The Crown Affair Collection.
The collection, which features two hair cuts and two colours, focused on accentuating the crown to create hairstyles that contrast tight head-hugging shapes with softness, as inspired by the backing bands of 60s music producer Phil Spector.
Mahogany international creative director Richard Thompson explains: "It started off as an area of the head that accentuated the crown and then we took it further.
"Fashion and economics often go together. On high end fashion you have the trophy piece look, but on the other hand you want to make it exciting so we clashed styles to make it fun."
The Mahogany creative team worked live on stage, enabling the audience to follow the work from start to finish, and each gave their own twist to the Crown Affair hairstyles by playing with lengths, textures and styling.
Strong cuts were complemented by a colour palette that used soft neutral bases accented with stronger colours.
But rather than the neon yellows and hot pinks that popped last year, today's contrasting colours were more pastel shades from rich gold to strong berry tones.
They were applied in bespoke techniques to create three strong moods: the bold effect, the shattered effect and diffused effect which, in keeping with the couture cuts, could be diluted down to appeal to clients in the salon.
The seminar's crowning glory came in the shape of the final showcase which featured five stunning presentation models as well as the 11 looks that had been prepared live and was greeted with rapturous applause and multiple camera flashes.
