Top tips for creating an award-winning collection Kevin Kahan web resize.jpgWhen it comes to creating an award-winning collection, attention to detail is everything. Of course, stunning hair is a priority - but makeup, styling, and your choice of photographer will all impact on the final image.

This stunning shot, which was part of Kevin Kahan's 2009 Northern Ireland Hairdresser of the Year award-winning collection, ticks all the boxes. We speak to the team responsible, and get the opinion of a top consumer hair magazine, who used this image in a recent issue.

Hair Stylist
"I'm absolutely delighted with this image because it fully encapsulates everything that I wanted my collection to be about. This being my debut collection, I had very strong, extremely ambitious ideas - but the team made every aspect of it work, and in doing so, completely interpreted my creative vision."

Photographer
"This image is pure gold. Kevin came up with the perfect storyline for his collection - it was new, fresh and really exciting. Everything came together so perfectly on the day, and it's now one of my all-time favourite shots."

Styling
"I just absolutely loved the brief for this shoot, and I was fortunate enough to be able to bring over this collection of clothes especially from Paris, exclusively for Kevin's shoot. It all worked so well together. This image is one my favourites in my portfolio now - it's just so strong."

Makeup Artist
"It was great working on this shoot with Kevin and the team. It was very important for me as a makeup artist to have a thorough understanding of the lighting we were going to be using, and to understand every aspect of the overall imagery we were aiming to create. It was really good to be able to do such strong make-up - it's great to go full out for art!"

Journalist
"I love the fact that the clean lines of the clothing in this image match the lines and form of the hairstyle. At first glance, this shot looks very avant-garde, but look closer and you realise just how commercial and wearable this look could be - it's a very clever image."
