This summer, stars are wearing what's been dubbed the 'dolly bun'; a rounded, high knot, placed right on the top of the head.

Whether worn prim and proper or loose and boho, the style can easily be adapted to suit any evening look.

"This summer top knots are the on-trend style to sport," says Megan Zarrabi, Stylist @ HOB Salons and member of the HOB Young Creative Team.

"Perfect for office chic, festival fun or evening glam, this high on the crown bun is easy to create and for the warmer summer months, is the perfect updo style."

X Factor runner up Diane Vickers opts for contrast, keeping the hair around the crown sleek and the bun itself full of texture. The look is completed with a thin braid around the base.

High School Musical actress Vanessa Hudgens keeps the look loose and boho, with plenty of movement and a few face-framing flyaways.

Kate Bosworth Whitney Port

Kate Bosworth goes for full on ballet beauty with this rounded style, padded out with a sponge ring for a pristine shape. A high shine finish gives this look a polished edge.

For a fashionable finish, Whitney Port opts for a flat, rounded bun which is tightly and neatly wrapped.

"As trends point towards far more disheveled and underworked looks for 2010, this style is easily accessible and can translate from catwalk to can-do in second," explains Megan.

"Encourage your clients to experiment with different looks, taking their cue from the red carpet and designer shows and blending it with their own style and suitability.

A face exposing look, adapt this high crown knotted style by keeping the base far looser, so tendrils fall to soften the look. Allow pieces to frame the face, using full and side sweep fringes to flatter and soften.

Imperfect and lax is the way to go, making this look a great choice for clients who have busy schedules but still want to look fashionable.

As we approach the prom season, this look offers the ideal style without being too overworked or appearing too 'done'.  With an editorial feel, this look is perfect for the client that likes to be 'in the know', someone who seeks quick hair styles with effective results."
